Howard Kodra

A pioneer in marine mammal training, began his career in the early 60s at just 14, working with his stepfather to train dolphins, developing groundbreaking techniques in handling, care, transportation, and rescue.

Founder & CEO

Howard Kodra

Howard Kodra, a pioneer in marine mammal training, was among the first to capture and train dolphins for marine parks in the early 1960s. At just 14, alongside his stepfather Dell Winders, he helped develop groundbreaking methods for caring for and handling dolphins. He also became the youngest professional alligator wrestler in the USA, touring the country with his skills.

Howard’s career took him worldwide—Bahamas, Hawaii, Canada, Australia, Europe—where he trained staff, advanced dolphin welfare, and introduced innovations such as:

  • The first travelling dolphin show (Flipper II)
  • Australia’s first marine mammal rescue program at SeaWorld
  • Safe capture, transport, and rescue techniques for marine mammals
  • He appeared on numerous TV and radio programs, including The Wonderful World of the Dolphin.

Eventually, Howard shifted his focus to marine conservation, founding Oceans Harmony, a global network dedicated to protecting marine life and ecosystems.

Jim Penman

Jim is an experienced entrepreneur passionate about innovation. He’s raced superbikes, managed F1 team logistics in Australia, worked with the Australian Olympic team, and helped launch Australia’s first independent NASCAR team in the US.

Now, Jim focuses on protecting our oceans as a director at Oceans Harmony, a nonprofit dedicated to ocean health through education and sustainable action.

Captain David Tomlinson

Internationally renowned Captain David Tomlinson has spent over 30 years exploring and studying the world’s oceans, commanding the RV Flamingo Bay on projects with leading museums, universities, and government agencies in marine biology, geology, archaeology, and oceanography. With over 6,000 hours underwater and 300,000 miles at sea, his work has focused on tropical marine ecosystems across Australia, the Coral Triangle, the SW Pacific, and the Bahamas.

A former member of the GBRMPA Reef Advisory Committee and the Billfish Foundation board, he received the International Superyacht Society’s Fabien Cousteau Blue Award in 2016 for his lifelong dedication to marine conservation. His expertise will be key in guiding Oceans Harmony’s future projects.
