Raising Awareness, Protecting Oceans
At Oceans Harmony, our mission has always been clear—protecting and preserving our oceans through constructive, unbiased solutions. As Howard, our CEO, shared during a recent trip, our approach is different from organisations like Sea Shepherd or Greenpeace. We don’t dictate; we collaborate. Whether it’s issues like shark nets or broader conservation strategies, we seek practical solutions that work for both people and marine life.
Awareness has played a huge role in ocean protection. Back in 1977, when Sea World was being set up on the Gold Coast, there were only around 600 whales migrating along Australia’s east coast. Today, thanks to decades of awareness and conservation efforts, numbers have risen to over 45,000—and they continue to grow every year.
A Day on the Water
This experience took place off the Sunshine Coast, aboard Sunreef’s high-speed dive boat. The conditions were perfect: calm seas, light winds, and plenty of excitement as we set out to spot the whales.
Safety always comes first—Sunreef uses the latest ankle shock technology to deter sharks, ensuring guests can enjoy the encounter with peace of mind.
And what an encounter it was. The highlight? Meeting a mother humpback whale and her newborn calf up close. Watching their bond, the tenderness between them, was nothing short of extraordinary.
Education Through Experience
Some may question whether swimming with whales disturbs them. But as the team explained, the goal isn’t intrusion—it’s education. Every interaction is on the whales’ terms. They choose whether to come closer or keep their distance. This respect fosters life-changing memories for guests and a deeper appreciation for marine conservation.
As one guest put it:
“We don’t swim with the whales—they swim with us. It’s their choice.”
That’s the power of responsible interaction: creating unforgettable moments that inspire people to care for our oceans.
Protecting What We Love
Ocean Harmony’s work doesn’t stop at encounters. We’re actively involved in projects that protect marine wildlife, raise awareness, and push for solutions that balance human needs with environmental protection.
But we can’t do it alone. Every donation, every show of support helps us continue this mission—protecting the oceans, the whales, and the countless other species that call them home.
